The Beauty of A Trail Ride

Powerful muscles

Rising and falling

Beneath me

A wind-tossed mane

Of amber hues

Bursts into shades of gold

In the glory of the sun

Solid hooves

Beat a dull rhythm

Thud...thud

Thud...thud

We pass through

Whispering leaves

Casting a blanket

Of shadows

Then I slip off

Land in the tall grass

So I can lean into

The firm security

Of warm strength

Beauty surrounds me

A hush of awe

As life itself

Pauses in respect

I close my eyes

A soul at peace

When I turn my back

I am surprised by

A hot breath

From behind

And inquisitive whiskers

On my cheek.
