I wrote the following poem when I was feeling particularly depressed about my spiritual condition. Sometimes, no matter how hard I try to follow God, I become entangled with sin. Then I'm reminded that only through Jesus Christ can I have victory over sin!
Flat on my face
Afraid to move
'Cause I know I'll make another mistake
The place I can't get away from
This feeling I can't shake
Hopeless, helpless, heartless
Cold

Caught in iron grip
Of chains that I've forged
It's the hoarse cry of a soul
That's begging for Light
That longs for the good
Knows what it needs
And yet dwells in shadows

Oh, I want to do right
But I'm addicted to wrong
Though I know the Answer
I think I'll do better
And I slip down the pathway of death
So how many times will I
Get knocked to the ground
Before I choose to live by
The Truth?

I'm crawling, sliding, groping
Towards the Light
The Answer
The Truth
No more hiding, no falling
Using the past for an excuse

It's funny when I remember
Somehow I once thought
My feet were good at standing
But now I see clearly
The constant, the steady
The faithful and true
And only thing good
Was You.
